1st Car Show was a Great Success

The Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation held its first "Classics for Kids" Car and Truck Show at the Carmine Hall on Saturday, September 28th.  Sixty-five Classic Cars and Trucks, dating from 1929 to 1999, were in attendance, as well as over a hundred spectators, who voted for their favorite entries.  The tall trees behind Carmine Hall provided the perfect backdrop for spectators and judges to review all of the vehicles.  Entries came from a wide area, including Orange, TX, Bridge City, TX, and Round Rock, TX.  "I am truly elated by the overwhelming support at our inaugural Classics for Kids Car and Truck Show.  The event was a phenomenal success, and I couldn't be prouder of the Education Foundation, our community supporters, contestants from neighboring counties, and those who traveled for hours to make this day special.  Their dedication to supporting the kids at RT-C ISD made this event unforgettable," said Ruby McCullough, President of the Education Foundation and Chair of the Car Show Committee.  
 
The Event was held as a fundraiser for the Education Foundation, founded in 2011 to provide Enrichment in the Arts, Technology, and Innovative Teacher Grants for the students and staff of Round Top-Carmine ISD.  The organization has a "Small School, Big Hearts" fundraiser each February, but this year's budget requires additional funding for technology needed this semester.  The Round Top-Carmine ISD budget is subject to a property tax recapture of over $ 2,000,000 by the State of Texas this year, so the Foundation seeks to fill in gaps that the District is unable to fund.  A Car Show Committee was formed to raise funds, and the community's support has been enthusiastic and generous. Businesses from Fayette County, Lee County, and Washington County provided financial sponsorships as well as in-kind donations for door prizes.  
 
Tony Ramirez, Pat Patrick, Craig Reagan, and Leroy Garrison of Top Floor Cars of Brenham served as judges.   The two overall winners were Patrick Kirts, for his 1954 Chevy Truck, and Chuck Stanley for his 1957 Olds sedan.  (They are pictured with Tony Ramirez, head Judge.
